Cathy Quiel, internationally renowned watercolorist, captures her images through a rich application of pigment. Her vibrant palette matches her optimistic and whimsical subject matter. 

Her paintings are represented internationally in corporate and private collections including the executive offices of CSULB and the cities of Los Alamitos and Cerritos, California.

Her work has been published and featured in numerous art publications including THE BEST OF WATERCOLOR III, THE ARTISTISTIC TOUCH 1-4, CONFIDENT COLOR & THE NEW CREATIVE ARTIST by Nita Leland, “The Artist Magazine,” “The Montecito Magazine,” “The American Artist” and AIRPLANES IN THE GARDEN, MONARCHS TAKE FLIGHT, a children’s book she illustrated in which she received the 2013 Global Ebook Silver Award for Best Illustration in children’s fiction. Children delight also in her illustrations in the HEATHER AND BUDDY book series.  Her most current book, PARADOLIA, was released in 2023.                

Cathy Quiel has been a guest lecturer at the Riverside Art Museum and the Muckenthaler Art Museum in conjunction with the National Watercolor Society and Watercolor West.

Her work has been exhibited in multiple galleries throughout the years, primarily Gallery Los Olivos for 17 years and Gallery 1029 until its closure. 

Although California based, Cathy Quiel’s talents are not restricted to the West Coast where she taught through the Santa Barbara City College, Schott Center for 27 years.

She has taught workshops in France, Italy, Malta, Mexico, the Caribbean, Bermuda, Greece and throughout the western United States. Her relaxing warmth and good humor combined with informative and organized teaching skills have won Cathy her student’s respect and friendship.
